Minor Injuries E-Book, 3rd Edition
The latest edition of this popular textbook continues to offer accessible, practical and clinically relevant information on the management of minor injuries. Reflecting the author’s long experience as a practitioner and teacher, the volume covers anatomy, examination and specific injuries in the depth that the specialty requires. Injuries to all parts of the body are included. Richly illustrated throughout - with many original images based on the author’s own designs - the volume is also accompanied by online videos where the author demonstrates the limb examinations which are described in the text.
The new edition has expanded to survey the law and the basic principles for X-ray requesting and interpretation in minor injury areas. The volume also offers more detailed guidance on the specific X-rays which are required for each of the limb joints. This material is intended to satisfy the legal training requirements for new practitioners to request X-rays as non-medical referrers.
Fully updated to include the latest guidelines and current practice on minor injuries of every kind, the third edition now offers a more comprehensive structure for the specialty of minor injuries, based on injuries to the limb and to the midline. Within the different topics under these broad headings, advice is given on the care of children, adults and the elderly.
Minor Injuries: A Clinical Guide, third edition, will be indispensable to every trainee, from nursing and from other professions, and to those who are already qualified and who wish to expand or update their practice. The volume also aims to equip practitioners to work in stand-alone units, seeing every patient who presents, and as such is ideal for those undertaking Advanced Practice training. The book also offers teachers of minor injuries a rationale for their sessions and a framework for designing their courses.

Comments about earlier editions:
I am an experienced emergency nurse practitioner of almost 4 years. However I was still able to learn from this book. Dennis has caught exactly the way to pass on information. The book is designed to be used by nurses working in the minor injury environment, although many SHO level doctors have commented on how helpful the book has been to them. Dennis has also provided excellent illustrations to back up the prose, many done by Dennis himself. It is an easy to follow book which can be read from cover to cover or used as a reference book. I would thoroughly recommend that anyone involved in minor injuries invest in this book.
As a nurse practitioner student, I found this book useful for getting the basics right. It is a good grass roots text and does not overwhelm with its jargon. I would recommend it to anyone in the minor injuries field.
This book is worth its weight in gold. Fantastic! A must have. You won’t be disappointed.
I have been an A&E nurse for many years and got the chance to do a minor injuries/illness course. This book was top of the reading list and everybody on the course has bought a copy. On top of that, most of the nurse practitioners in our department also have a copy. Generally, I find it hard to read textbooks, but this particular one is very easy to pick up and use as a reference when I am working. Whenever I need to check anything out, I simply go to the relevant section and the answer is there. Great book - would highly recommend!
This book is brilliant! It is well recommended for anyone studying any aspects of minor injuries, it is easy to understand and interpret. A great buy!
I am a nurse in a prison and we deal with lots of minor injuries so this book is very useful. Due to it being written by a nurse – it’s user friendly and not full of terminology for terminologies sake!
Dennis Purcell's Minor Injuries handbook is a 'must have' for all nurses working in the field. The man is gifted and he shares his skills well. Once you purchase the book you are then able to access on-line demonstration of examinations and that is without price. I highly recommend this book - not only to nurses but medical students and doctors also. Excellent!
A truly invaluable book for all nurse practitioners and those involved in assessing minor injuries. Clear, concise and well laid out. The illustrations are brilliant, well labelled and thorough. I can't envisage not having this book by my side at work. Buy it - you really won't regret it!
