Doody's review

Score: 99

Description: The purpose is to provide an up-to-date, comprehensive, evidence-based approach to the full array of neonatal issues, from organiation to euthics to clinical care. The book is rooted in biochemistry and pathophysiology as the basis for care algorithms.

Audience: The audience is the full complement of neonatal caregivers, from nurses to attendings.

Assessment: This is the gold standard of neonatal references. It is evidence based, written by known experts in the field, and comprehensive. Compared to the other neonatal textbooks (Avery's Neonatology: Pathophysiology and Management of the Newborn, 6th edition, MacDonald et al. (Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2005), Avery's Diseases of the NEwborn, 9th edition, Gleason and Devaskar (Elsevier, 2012)), it is more detailed with an emphasis on the organization asepcts of perinatal medicine, biochemistry, and the pathophysiological basis of care algorithms. This book is a must for every neonatal library and is a selection in this field for the Doody Core Titles 2015 list.

"The book discusses the pathophysiology of disease processes in neonatal/perinatal medicine, stressing evidence-based management strategies. The target audience is neonatal physicians, fellows, and neonatal nurse practitioners. Anyone who spends time caring for critically ill infants would appreciate and benefit from this book. This is an outstanding edition of an already accepted core textbook in neonatology. It is aesthetically appealing, and the authors do not disappoint with their content. With this ever-changing field, the updated edition is a welcome resource for any practicing neonatologist." - Matthew Cortez, MD (Ochsner Clinic Foundation), Excerpts from Doody's review service, Rating - 4 Stars!

"This is a fantastic book. It is a 'tour de force' exploration of fetal, perinatal and neonatal care, with a long list of contributors at the cutting edge of neonatology from across the USA and around the world. In this way it is able to present a balanced and international view on the current management of perinatal conditions...Fanaroff and Martin's Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine is a genuine alternative to the standard UK texts such as Rennie and Roberton's Textbook of Neonatology"
