Elsevier to publish a new edition of Nursing and Midwifery Portfolios: evidence of continuing competence

A new edition of an important nursing text from Elsevier Australia will be a godsend for local nurses and midwives managing their professional portfolios in the wake of national registration.

Sydney, 27th April 2011

Elsevier Australia has announced it will publish a second edition of Nursing and Midwifery Portfolios: evidence of continuing competence in May 2011.

Clinical Naturopathic Medicine is a clinical foundation textbook for practitioners and students alike. It offers a solid understanding of the major therapeutic modalities within naturopathic medicine and will support Australian practitioners integrating naturopathy with conventional western medicine. The book will be released on 15 May 2011.

This new edition has been thoroughly revised and updated to reflect the implementation of the 2010 National Registration and Accreditation Scheme (NRAS) for health professionals.

The implementation of national registration has required nurses and midwives in Australia and New Zealand to perform annual Continuing Professional Development (CPD). This new edition of Nursing and Midwifery Portfolios: evidence of continuing competence has been fully updated to align with the CPD requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.

Nurses and midwives must document evidence of this CPD ? including skills acquisition, activities, reflection, identification and prioritisation of learning needs ? in a portfolio. This expertly-written book not only demystifies the topic of portfolios, but has also been thoroughly revised to meet the global trend towards e-Portfolios as an alternative to paper-based ones.

Nursing and Midwifery Portfolios, 2nd Edition: evidence of continuing competence is equally suitable for undergraduate and postgraduate students, practicing midwives and nurses, nursing and midwifery educators and managers.

This definitive new edition is packed with information not present in the first edition, which was published in 2007. A new chapter on the value of including reflection within portfolios, greater emphasis on evidence-based practice and increased use of examples and case studies are just some of the numerous new inclusions.
